Bareilly (Desk) — Maulana Tauqeer Raza, notorious for repeatedly trying to push Bareilly into the flames of communal violence, has finally been arrested by the police. On Saturday, DM Avinash Singh and SSP Anurag Arya informed during a press conference that Maulana Tauqeer, the key conspirator behind the Bareilly violence, along with eight miscreants, was arrested and sent to jail on 14-day judicial custody after being produced in court.Tauqeer Raza is accused of instigating communal unrest in Bareilly on Friday through his inflammatory speeches. Following his provocation, crowds of misguided youth gathered on the streets, leading to chaos, panic, stone-pelting, vandalism, and provocative sloganeering from Khalil Tiraha to Islamia Ground. DIG Ajay Sahni and SSP Anurag Arya, along with the brave police force and paramilitary, managed to prevent Bareilly from slipping into full-scale riots.The arrested include Maulana Tauqeer Raza, Sarfaraz (son of Salim), Manifuddin (son of Garifuddin), Azeem Ahmad (son of Naseem), Mohammad Sharif (son of Mohammad Ahmad), Mohammad Amir (son of Mohammad Zahid), Rehan (son of Raju), and Mohammad Sarfaraz (son of Mohammad Shameem). Additionally, around 36 others have been detained for questioning. Their roles are being verified through video footage.Police revealed that Tauqeer Raza was placed under house arrest at the residence of his associate Farhat in Faiq Enclave on Thursday, after he misled supporters by spreading rumors of having left for Delhi. Later, he was formally arrested by a team led by SP Traffic Akmal Khan and shifted to a secure location. On Saturday morning, under heavy police protection, he was presented in court by Inspector Amit Pandey, SOG teams, SP Traffic, and Circle Officers, after which he was sent to jail.Multiple FIRs have been lodged in Kotwali, Baradari, Premnagar, and Qila police stations against Tauqeer Raza and hundreds of named and unidentified accused. Alone in Baradari police station, 40 named and more than 400 unidentified individuals have been booked in two separate cases. Police are also preparing to invoke the Goonda Act and Gangster Act in these cases.Maulana Tauqeer Raza has a long history of controversies. In the 2010 riots, the court identified him as the mastermind. Non-bailable warrants and property attachment orders were issued against him, forcing him underground several times. Recently too, summons and property seizure actions were initiated in the same matter.
