Bareilly (Desk) — Despite Section 163 being in force in the district, people continued gathering at Islamia. IMC chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan had announced on Friday that after the Juma Namaz, a memorandum would be peacefully submitted to the district administration. Accordingly, as soon as the Friday prayers ended, people began assembling near Naumahla Mosque and Islamia. Meanwhile, slogans were raised and speeches began.

When youths in the crowd appeared to lose control, the police were forced to carry out a lathicharge, which led to chaos and a stampede.Police and administrative officials kept a close watch over the city. ADG Ramit Sharma and the Divisional Commissioner monitored the situation from Kotwali, receiving minute-to-minute updates. DIG Ajay Sahni and SP City Manush Parikh remained stationed at Bihari Pur police outpost, tracking developments. SSP Anurag Arya and SP City Manush Parikh conducted two rounds of flag marches. Meanwhile, police forces were deployed outside Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan’s residence in Saudagaran, as well as at the homes of other IMC leaders.After Juma Namaz, large groups of people started heading towards Islamia. Despite strict restrictions, heavy crowds from different neighborhoods reached the Bihari Pur outpost and Naumahla area. Some people began delivering speeches there. Seeing the situation deteriorating, police resorted to a lathicharge and dispersed the crowd.
